Gain an Edge Summer Program Application

Application Instructions:

The “Gain an Edge” summer program is geared for middle and high school students. This program builds skills in areas that are critical for success in college as well as in the job market. Unofficial transcripts must be emailed to gwgainanedge@gwu.edu with the applicant's name in the subject line. Please see your guidance counselor as to how to obtain your unofficial transcript.

Program Structure

Financial Assistance

Financial scholarships (partial and full) are available to students who can show proof of financial need. Acceptable documents to show proof of financial hardship include:

Unemployment compensation statement
Proof that you qualify for federal or state government assistance programs, including but not limited to:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) for food
- Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for healthcare
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for energy cost
- Housing Choice Vouchers for Rent (Section 8)
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for financial and welfare assistance
