This spring 2025, the GW Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences is offering the following courses at the Foggy Bottom campus!
MLS 2005 - Plagues, Pandemics, and Epidemics
- Course Description: This course provides an overview of how infectious agents cause disease and impact society at large. We will examine historical and current examples of plagues, pandemics and epidemics and consider possible ways to ameliorate the impact of these diseases in the future. The course will begin by providing necessary background in microbiology, immunology, and statistics. The primary focus in each subsequent week will be on discussing a particular disease or plague that has been involved in pandemic or epidemic outbreaks. The course will be broad in scope covering biological, historical, ethical and social implications of each disease covered.
